I finally saw Werner Herzog’s Cave of Forgotten Dreams and it was, in many respects, an extraordinary experience. I’m drafting a post on the film and on cave art in general but in the meantime, here’s the trailer.

On the 70th anniversary of the Lascaux Cave discovery, sixteen images with commentary from Life magazine’s Ralph Morse, the first photographer (now 93!) to go through the cave after the end of WWII. Other than the interesting behind-the-scenes photos from the Morse shoot, there are multiple, previously unpublished cave images; beautiful linework on the steer.
